Anyone who has visited Los Cabos during the summer months knows just how hot it can get, which presents even the most seasoned hair and makeup artist with a whole new set of challenges to overcome. Brides are constantly pulled between air-conditioned rooms, stifling outdoor areas and are also exposed to hair-frizzing humidity levels. Luckily, at Cabo Makeup we love to be challenged! The scorching temperatures on Maya and Brandon’s big day this past August had us rifling through our duffel bags for those tried and tested products that we knew would beat the summer heat.
Maya and her girls began their wedding preparations, all handled by Jesse Wolff at Cabo Wedding Services, at the (thankfully air-conditioned) Hilton Los Cabos Hotel. I like to go back and forth with my brides quite a bit before the wedding day and during our early conversations, Maya and I had agreed upon a natural look, utilizing warm bronze tones to complement her to-die-for olive complexion. I used Mac’s Warm Neutrals Palette on Maya’s eyes and created a smokey effect to add a touch of the dramatic. As for lips, we went for a soft, natural color, courtesy of Chanel’s Tender Beige. We always recommend our brides keep their basics on hand throughout the day to make any necessary touchups, and Maya made sure the team at Cabo Wedding Services had that Chanel on hand in case she needed it!
When it came to her hair, Maya chose an upswept look, the perfect combination of “wedding formal” and relaxed curl. The majority of her style was pinned back and away from the face, which meant her curls would remain in place throughout without relaxing in the heat and humidity. We left a few strands loose in the front to frame her face and play into that seaside vibe, in what was otherwise a very classic look.
With our stunning bride runway ready we packed up for the day, before Maya headed off to the Sunset MonaLisa restaurant just outside of downtown Cabo San Lucas. Temperatures had risen throughout the day, and Maya’s ceremony was held high above the Sea of Cortez, a stunning view of Land’s End but certainly exposed to all of the elements that may potentially ruin a look. In Maya’s case, she made it through looking every bit the fairytale princess, proving that Los Cabos’ climate doesn’t stand a chance against perfect primers, heavy duty fixing sprays and genius frizz beating products!
I like to provide my readers with as much info as I can about the products and techniques that go into creating our looks, but in this case, I can’t avoid giving a very loud shout out to Maya’s beautiful and towering, crystal encrusted heels by designer Badgley Mischka. We are green with envy!
A very big congratulations to Maya and Brandon. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your special celebration and thank you to Pink Palm for capturing every special moment!
